Well, what a terrible month for film viewing! Due to puppy commitments and the small matter of moving house, only four films were watched in August. But, what a selection they were! You can’t accuse me of favouring one genre over another… I’m happily ensconced in my new house so normal, regular film viewing will – fingers crossed – recommence soon.
August
CINEMA VISITS
The Heat – Obvious in parts but with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. A solid comedy flick. ★★★½
REWATCHES
Predator – “If it bleeds we can kill it!” I could watch this on repeat for hours and not get bored. ★★★★
1ST TIMERS
Seven Psychopaths – Better than I was expecting after hearing a review from a work colleague. Very strange in parts, but brilliantly acted. Well, it is Walken, Rockwell and Farrell after all. ★★★½
Pretty in Pink – Watched on the advice of a friend, I found it very enjoyable without, happily, the cheesiness that certain Eighties films have. ★★★½
Total: 4
August’s top film: Well, Predator would take this ordinarily but I’m going to plump for The Heat, as it gave me so many laugh-out-loud moments. While it may not go down as one of the greatest comedies, and I admit that I will probably forget the plot of it soon enough, it provided some well-needed giggles.
August’s best actor/actress: It’s a tie between Sam Rockwell and Colin Farrell, both from Seven Psychopaths. Rockwell is a solid actor, in my opinion, while Farrell impresses most when he chooses more interesting characters, namely Ray in In Bruges. Well played, boys.

I, too, enjoyed Seven Psychopaths, and Predator never gets old!
That it doesn’t, Michael! I wasn’t sure what to expect with Seven Psychopaths. It’s one of those films that leaves you in silence for a few minutes after it finishes, digesting what just happened!
I’ve heard mixed things about The Heat…with it making an appearance on home video I’ll get a chance to check it out though.
Like you though I could quite easily watch Predator on repeat!!!
