[Movies of the Month] October

October

1ST TIMERS
Space Station 76
– An all star cast but lacking comedy. ★★
French Kiss – Typical of its time with a Hollywood ending but enjoyable nonetheless. ★★★½
The Reconstruction of William Zero – Interesting concept but fails to keep your attention. ★★
Shuddh Desi Romance – This is modern Bollywood that tackles the love/arranged marriage issue in a light-hearted way. It’s good but let down by characters you don’t feel empathy for. ★★★
Mulan – Fun from start to finish; Eddie Murphy’s Mushu is brilliant! ★★★½
Hercules – Again, a very enjoyable Disney animation. ★★★½
Coonskin – A Tuesday Night Film Club™ pick that was chosen to discuss whether racism is more tolerable in animation than live-acting. ★★½
Vacation – Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments but . ★★★
Everything Must Go – IMDb bills this as a comedy-drama but the comedy element is definitely absent. ★★½

REWATCHES
The Men Who Stare at Goats – Always entertaining; one of my favourite Clooney films. ★★★★
Thor – Hands down, favourite Marvel film. ★★★★½
Thor: The Dark World – A worthy follow up to its predecessor. ★★★★½
Pineapple Express – Much better than I remember, Franco and Rogen make a brilliant double act. ★★★★
The Hunger Games – Mockingjay: Part 1 – XXX. ★★★★
Cowboys & Aliens – The action quota is fit to burst but it lacks substance. Take it for what it is, a light-hearted action flick that combines two genres you wouldn’t expect to see together. ★★★
Alien: Resurrection – A bone of contention for many, but I found this much better than I remembered. ★★★

  1. I actually thought Mockingjay Part 1 was arguably the best of the series so far.

Good to hear Vacation has some laughs. I’m not expecting a lot but, as a fan of the original, I’m eager to see what they come up with.
