[Movies of the Month] August

There were more films watched this month courtesy of Tuesday Movie Night, with another business trip overseas adding to the in-flight count. Looking back, it’s quite an eclectic mix, with only horror missing from the line up!

CINEMA VISITS
Guardians of the Galaxy – Simply put in two words, this is ‘great fun’. ★★★★

REWATCHES
Top Gun – Still, and will probably always be, a favourite. ★★★★★
The A-Team – Fun, loud and OTT – not a classic but a good ‘Friday night in’ film. ★★★½
Little Miss Sunshine – I’ve always had a lot of love for this; brilliant film. ★★★★★
King Kong – Expert effects from Weta makes this visually stunning. ★★★★
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason – As Bridget, Zellweger arguably gives one of the best performances of an American as a Brit. ★★★★

1ST TIMERS
The Other Woman – Laugh-out-loud funny in parts, and perfect to watch in-flight. ★★★½
The Grand Budapest Hotel – Also watched in-flight, this needs to be rewatched again ASAP; a masterpiece. ★★★★★
Step Up – Very predictable but worthy of the three-star rating due to the dancing. ★★★
The Angriest Man in Brooklyn – A stellar performance from Williams, made all the more poignant by his recent death. ★★★★★
Black Dynamite – Chosen by a friend on Tuesday Movie Night, this isn’t something I’d watch again… ★★½
