[Favourites Friday] Hot Fuzz

After writing about another Wright/Pegg/Frost film a few days ago, Shaun of the Dead, I thought I’d write about another one, which I’ve always really enjoyed: Hot Fuzz.

Hot Fuzz (2007)

Director: Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost

IMDb: ” Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner. On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events.”

I can’t quite place my finger on why I love this film so much, there’s simply too many reasons. It’s very well-written, the acting is spot on and, living in a small village myself, I love the setting.

Pegg is the top London cop, Nicholas Angel, Frost is the witless new partner, Danny Butterman, and this buddy cop flick really does have it all: gruesome murders, interesting locals and a hell of a lot of guns – farmers’ mums have guns, don’t you know. In my opinion, this film is comedy at its finest.

Watch this film if you’re a fan of British comedy, which is shown to perfection in this film. Pegg and Frost are always great to watch on screen, and Hot Fuzz shows off their fantastic relationship very well.

  1. I loved Timothy Dalton as the villain in this one. It took me a long time to see it since I didn’t think it’d hold up to ‘Shawn of the Dead’. It isn’t quite as good, but it’s well worth a watch.

    1. Hear, hear!! I saw this on opening night BECAUSE of Dalton. I’m so glad Wright hired him, he was brilliant. I read that during filming, Pegg/Frost was in awe of him and couldn’t believe James Bond was with them on set, ha..ha..

It’s quite bloody though, but definitely funny and fun to watch. Good pick, Claire!

      1. I agree, Dalton was excellent in this. His slick baddie is good fun to watch and I think Dalton was perfectly cast.

Hehe, I like that anecdote! 😛

  2. Hi, Claire and company:

Excellent ckoice and a great write-up!

I found ‘Hot Fuzz’ through the word of a friend and taken aback by just how flat out funny Pegg, Frost and this film is.

Got a kick out Timothy Dalton’s villain and Edward Woodward and his problem with ‘Hoodies’ in one of his last films. Also fell in love with the Constabulary’s Weapons Vault and all its treasures within.

    1. Thank you, Jack. It’s a very solid film – it’s fast paced and well written. As with many Pegg/Frost films there are references to other films, which I like. It’s simply good fun! 😀

    1. Haha, like Ruth said, it does get a little gory! I love how they reference other cop films 😛 I like homage to Point Break too, good old Nick Frost!

    1. It is very well written, isn’t it Gazza? The acting is spot on as well and so many of my favourite actors make an appearance: Jim Broadbent, Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy… There’s even Bill Bailey!

    1. I was thinking about this and I really can’t say which one I prefer! Paul is great fun, too. If I had to I’d probably say 1. Shaun of the Dead, 2. Hot Fuzz and 3. Paul…
