Hugo Weaving confirmed for The Hobbit

Gandalf has spoken!

Today – 10th May – Ian McKellen posted another update from The Hobbit set entitled ‘2 Elves and another Wizard’.

In the post he confirmed that Hugo Weaving will be reprising his role as Lord Elrond.

McKellen gave us this snippet of information: “Hugo was recently onstage as Astrov in Chekov’s Uncle Vanya for the Sydney Theatre Company, whose director, Cate Blanchett, played Yelena.  Before she returns as Galadriel, they will reprise their production at Washington DC’s Kennedy Center in August.”

Weaving has a fellow elf in Bret McKenzie, famous being one half of Flight of the Conchords. This isn’t McKenzie’s first trip to Middle Earth, though. He had a non-speaking role in The Fellowship of the Ring. McKenzie will return to Middle Earth as a senior official at Elrond’s court. He returns with a name, too – Lindir.

Finally, Sylvester McCoy has a mention. Already confirmed as Radagast the Brown, McKellen reveals that he has arrived in New Zealand to try on his costume and make-up.
