On January 7th I wrote a post entitled ‘Preview: films to look out for in 2011‘.
So, how am I doing?
Out of my ‘9 films I don’t want to miss’ I have seen three out of the four that have been released so far.
- 127 Hours was very ‘efficient’ – it was lean, concise and gritty
- The King’s Speech was fantastic: I loved it, 10 out of 10
- Black Swan was brilliant and Natalie Portman gave the best performance of her career
Unfortunately, for one reason or another I never got round to seeing Never Let Me Go. I am a bit disappointed as, on the whole, it was well received. Never mind, I’ll catch it when it comes out on DVD.
On my ‘Best of the Rest’ list I watched Paul (a great laugh!) but missed out on Morning Glory. Country Strong, scheduled to come out at the end of March, hasn’t been showing at my local and I’m not sure it will be either.
Interestingly, True Grit didn’t get a mention in my post at all though I did go and see it. I’m really glad I did as I really, really enjoyed it. Hailee Steinfeld is a star in the making and deserved her Oscar nomination.
What’s coming up this month?
Well, going back to my ‘9 films I don’t want to miss’, I still really want to go see Red Riding Hood and Thor. Sucker Punch has just been released but I’ve completely gone off it… Your Highness is out on the 13th and warrants an Orange Wednesday visit.
Scream 4 is out on the 15th and I want to go see that so will try and see if I can find a Scream boxset to watch in preparation.
