Starting at 4pm this afternoon, Wednesday 27th October, with a special ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ reception from 6.30-8.30pm, the 1964 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in the films Goldfinger and Thunderball is going under the hammer at the Automobiles of London sale by RM Auctions in London.
Two DB5s were used on-screen for the production of Goldfinger and Thunderball. One has since disappeared but the other – and only known remaining – original 007 DB5 movie car is being sold tonight. This will be the first time the car has ever been offered for sale. The car was previously owned by Jerry Lee of Philadelphia. He had enjoyed the car for over 40 years, treated it appropriately as a work of fine art, and stored it faithfully in a special, climate-controlled James Bond room of his home. The car is complete with its movie gadgets.
Rather cryptically, the estimate is only ‘available upon request’.
UPDATE: The Aston Martin DB5 sold for £2.6 million, with bidding finishing at 9.40pm. It has been reported that only two bids were placed and, suprisingly, classic car collectors “weren’t climbing over each other to get a piece of the action”.
