Oscars 2010 draws to an end

And what a night it was! In a battle of the sexes, and the exes, The Hurt Locker proved triumphant with Kathryn Bigelow becoming the first woman to recieve the Best Director award. Avatar was, relatively speaking, the night’s loser only winning three out of its nine nominations.

The top awards were as follows:

  • Best Picture – The Hurt Locker
  • Directing – Kathryn Bigelow
  • Actor in a Leading Role – Jeff Bridges
  • Actress in a Leading Role – Sandra Bullock
  • Actor in a Supporting Role – Christoph Waltz
  • Actress in a Supporting Role – Mo’nique
  • Animated Feature Film – Up

I watched about half of the awards, up until cinematography, and also followed the evening on Twitter courtesy of EW, Guy Adams, Vanity Fair, Empire and Total Film. Reading their reactions and getting the inside gossip proved more fun than actually watching. I learnt that winners got their oscars engraved on the night, and that Barbara Streisland had a host of Hollywood’s actors sitting on her table at the Vanity Fair dinner. Here is a compilation of some of my favourite Tweets:

VANITYFAIRMAG: At this party, holding an Oscar is no big thing. Holding TWO Oscars, on the other hand, makes you a badass.

EW: Sandra Bullock spots Jeremy Renner at the GB. Runs up. “You have handled everything so beautifully,” she tells him

EW: Renner looks Bullock up and down. Says to her, “You look gorgeous.”

GUYADAMS: Walking back to car have been propositioned by two transvestites and a hooker. God I love Hollywood

GUYADAMS: Sandra Bullock said backstage that she’s putting the Oscar and the Razzie side by side on the same shelf at home

EW: Kristen Stewart is waiting for a limo pick up at the end of the red carpet. She’s trying to look patient. An award-worthy performance.

GUARDIANFILM: To James Cameron: please run on stage and insist you are still king of the world. and then laugh for a really long time
